The COVID-19 pandemic has made heroes of many involved in public health — Dr. Anthony Fauci (director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases), Dr. Deborah Birx (Coronavirus Response Coordinator), and Dr. Sanjay Gupta (CNN’s chief medical correspondent), to name a few, have all emerged as calm voices of reason and expertise in an otherwise chaotic time.

While we continue to be grateful for them, it is incredibly important for us to look back into history and into the care of marginalized communities occurring today. Who has been forgotten? Who is still forgotten? …
